Brad's Birthday

Today was Brad's birthday. We celebrated at the house with the the girls, Aunt Wendy and Miss Madi. Madi and I blew up 30 helium balloons and managed to keep them in the house until we sang to Brad. After that it was every balloon for itself. Many years ago Brad read a book to the girls about where a balloon goes if you loose it. Since then Cecilia has felt it her mission to set all balloons free.

After cake and ice cream Brad and I went to the movie "Changeling" it was great. I would recommend it.

The Blonde Buddah

It is hard to believe that 11 years ago, I was already in labor with Cecilia. She wasn't born until 5pm. the next day! 22 hours! It has gone fast since then. Her school teacher calls her the Blonde Buddah. That she is, when she is near there is always a sense of peace.

Road Trip

On Friday I surprised Maria by picking her up early at school. We headed off to St. George with my friends Andrea and Jana. We each have daughters who are in 3rd grade. Maria, Aubrey and Julia are all great friends. We had a great time knitting, beading and doing projects with the girls. I also had the chance to do a little Christmas shopping... All in all it was a good time. We hope to go again soon.

Resources Available to Those Researching Their Family History
from LDS News/Around the Church
It takes just a single name—your name—to get started on the search for your family's genealogy. "You start with what you know," said Ellis Martin, a volunteer at the family history center located inside The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Redding. "Everything you know, write it down and start working backward."

Mr . & Mrs. Goyens attended

After the play there was time for photos. One of the highlights of the evening was that Mr. & Mrs. Goynes were there. They are a husband and wife who have served many years as school teachers in Las Vegas. Each elementary school is named after a notable school teacher. We are always thrilled to see the Goynes support our kids.

The Orchardfield Manor

Maria along with 100 other kids auditioned for the school play. Twenty were chosen out of the 20 three 3rd graders were picked. Among them, Maria. She enjoyed all aspects of being part of the production and never complained about practicing before or after school. It was a great experience for her.

The first day of school

Yeah, I know it is almost time for track break and parent teacher conferences. This tardiness is part of my pledge to not be too type A to enjoy life. So, here goes the photos from the first day of school. Maria's were taken in the courtyard of our home. She continues to thrive in her environment and enjoys all aspects of schooling.
Cecilia's were taken in the house and at school. Her buddy Marteysa is hanging on to her. She is one of the little angel's in our life. It was originally called the 'lunch bunch'. Just a group of girls from school who would go to Cecilia's class and say hi. Then it was lunch. Now years later she still has great friends and people to keep her safe at school. As you can see by the photo one of the most amazing thing about the kids that serve as model peer, Cecilia gives back in a different way. Mostly, she seems indifferent though she is anything other than so. Martyesa understands that and hangs in there with her.

Voting, Election 2008

What a beautiful day! I was thrilled to take part in the election. I have also been thrilled with the reactions and pride I see in the faces about town. What a blessing to the country. I think it will be a wonderful boost for the minority groups in the U.S.

Which will gratefully cut my travel time! While searching and preparing I remembered Cecilia's Dog Fancy article. You may view it by clicking on the following link. Request a copy of Dog Fancy article. http://bnhtomahawking@gmail.comIt shows a sweet little portion of our life here at home.

Being Heard
The day is finally here. Did it not seem like a long time? The atmosphere at the polling place was palpable. No matter who the candidate, there was a great deal of history to be made. I will note one small bit that I did notice while watching NBC's coverage. They referred to Barrack Obama as "President". It was only 5 pm. Pacific Time. (where I live) Without much hard data reported. I must say all opinions aside, what a privilege it is to stand there and make our own choices. With that said, as my personal plea to our loosening of tongues, I cast my ballot in privacy.
